Movie Review: Over The Hedge

Movie Review:
Over the Hedge

Heading into the theatre, I was so excited to see "Over the Hedge"..... suddenly, no the more apropiate word to me would be sullenly I was dissapointed. The first beginning credits begin with very nice mellow music to try to get you in the mood (which I might add was the best part of the entire film) and actually did work at the time, but unfortuanetely, the movie starts out slow and ends slightly less.
The Music: The music well, let's just say tryed to substitute for the sorry attempt to make you laugh. It was mellow and easygoing but did not fit the movie what so ever.
The Acting: The acting was not the dropping point of the movie..... nor was the plot, I'm not quite sure what was the dropping point of this movie but to me it just did not feel right. Although Gary Shandling as the very shell shocked turtle Verne, at some points was entirely off. Avril Lavigne is not an actress (at least not a voice actress at that.) she was the worst.
The Plot: The plot went up and down much to much. Some points you will be snoring, others you will be jumping and cheering for a lazer dodging squirrel.
The Script: Last but not least the script, well on a humorous level I would rate the script a 4 out of 10 with many mindless punchlines and hardly any thoughtful and simple warming moments. If you like mindless toilet humor, then most likely you are sure to love the humor here.
Overall Score: 5 1/2 OUT OF 10

CD Review: The Face Of Love

CD Review:
The Face Of Love Sanctus Real
By Blair S.
Sanctus Real's third offering shows some maturity in writing. Rockin' songs with hard-hitting lyrics. The lead single, "I'm Not Alright", is a rock song about brokeness. "We're Trying" is about natural human sinfulness. The song also has the best guitar intro on the album. "We're Trying" is a good upbeat rocker. "Possibilities", "Don't Give Up", "We're Trying", "I'm Not Alright", and "Where We Belong" are the better songs on the CD. A lot of the other songs are slow and worn down. Such as "Magnetic" and "Fly". If you like that type of thing, you'll like it, but give me either an upbeat song or a strong ballad. "Eloquent" & "Thank You are better, but are still not strong enough. The album closes with "Benjamin", a ballad written during a happy and sad time for the band. This CD is good, but after loving Fight The Tide, this CD needs a couple more upbeat songs like "Closer" & "Message".

Survivor: "CBS can be cruel about their commercials. On the commercial for the finale, it looked like Cirie was going to win the tie-breaker. However, that was not the case. Then Terry was voted out by Danielle, leaving only her and Aras. Poor Aras for slipping on the rock. I bet Danielle was hoping that he would have to leave the game (like Bruce) and win the million bucks. I think that would have been the only way she would have won. She broke off Terry's deal for the final two, so she did not get his vote. I liked what Terry said when he voted for Aras, 'I'm just so used to writing his name down'. I'm glad Aras beat out Danielle, but I wish that Terry and/or Cirie made the final two."
-Blair S.

American Idol: "Ok, here are my American Idol thoughts for the past few weeks: Yes, it is finally that time again that nearly all of America awaits...... the American Idol finale! Who are the lucky two of '06?? None other than Taylor Hicks and Katherine Mcphee! Whoo Hoo.... sorry no whoo hoos from me, I still think that Chris Daughtry should've at least been in the top 2 with Taylor Hicks. I mean Katherine is a great singer and should of been, in the top three, but Chris was an amazing singer and performer. To me it should've been Taylor, Chris AND Katherine in the top three, sorry Elliot. But I predict gray crooner Taylor, to take home the Idol name this year. That's my predictions of this Idol year!"
-Courtney T.

The Amazing Race: "Yay! BJ & Tyler won! At first we thought they were going to lose against the frat boys, Eric & Jeremy, but our hippies made it through the flag roadblock. I think BJ & Tyler deserved to win more than any other team. They hit 2 of the 3 non-elimination rounds. They had to beg for money twice. After Fran & Barry were eliminated, everyone hated BJ & Tyler. My favorite part (other than BJ & Tyler winning the million) was the flag challenge. I would have breezed through that game."
-Blair S.

Issue 15:
Really Reality TV
The Amazing Race "Is it just me, or is anyone getting tired of Eric & Jeremy getting either first or second every week. I hope they slip up soon in the race. If they don't, it will be a boring finale. Fran & Barry are doing better than expected. I'm sad that geeky couple, Dave & Lori got out. They were a good team. Even though they bicker, Lake & Michelle make an entertaining team. My final three: BJ & Tyler, Lake & Michelle, and Fran & Barry. Most likely final three: BJ & Tyler, Eric & Jeremy, and Ray & Yolanda."
-Blair S.
American Idol "Yes, very unfortunate it was... last week waiting anxiously on the sofa for my ABSOLUTE favorite reality show, the one, the only American Idol. What was unfortunate you ask? Well, the fact that it was the most boring episode of American Idol just about ever (And I have proof from the judges). The first performance was not SO terrible (as the judges criticized Lisa Tucker's performance) in my opinion, just compared to former Idol winner Clarkson's version. In my opinion the worst and the most overated performance was by far Eliott's which got the judges praise. The show-stealer of the night was obviously Paris Bennet's Beyonce. I was really hoping for Ace to be cut, Lisa was one of my favorites! Definitely not one of my favorite weeks."
-Courtney T.
Survivor: Exile Island "Ok, we're at the merge. With the way Shane and Bruce were acting, you would think they were going to jump ship. They didn't. I guess they got used to Courtney and Danielle. My favorites are still Cirie, Austin, and Bruce, but for some strange reason I like Shane. I admit, he was kind of a jerk pulling together the Casaya meeting in front of everyone including the folks from La Mina. Shane is interesting when he's fighting with Courtney. Personally, I think Cirie is going to win. She's flying under the radar and not getting into the drama. She is also very likable, so if she's in the final two with anyone she'll probably win. Her only competition in the final two might be Terry, and if anyone is smart they will vote for him if he dosen't win immunity." -Blair Sanders

Freaked! A Gotee Tribute to "Jesus Freak"
Yes, I am not only your "Dove-ologist", "Veggietales maniac", and "CCM Freak", I also review special albums. (VeggieRocks, WoW Christmas, The Incredible living Christmas Tree.) This time, I'm reviewing the Gotee Records tribute to Jesus Freak! My sister actually bought the CD, but I listened to it and enjoyed it. The hightlight would have to be Relient K's version of "Between You and Me". Relient K does a nice job of adding their signature pop-punk, while staying true to the original. Paul Wright and Ayiesha Woods also cover "Between You and Me". It sounds similar to DC Talk's version. (Except for Ayiesha Woods vocals.) While Freaked! has two covers of "Between You and Me", the CD has three versions of the ground-breaking title track. 4th Avenue Jones has the best cover of "Jesus Freak". 4th Avenue Jones' lead singer takes a back seat on this song and performs the rap, while bandmember Tena Jones sings. John Reuben leads the Gotee Choir for his version of "Jesus Freak", which sounds like a Spanish folk song with William Hung singing. (Good thing it's only two minutes.) I think it was played for laughs, because that's I do when I hear this version. The band Chasing Victory also performs "Jesus Freak". If you thought DC Talk's "Jesus Freak" was too soft, (If that's even possible.) this song is for you. There's no rapping, there's screaming. "In The Light", performed by Storyside:B, sounds very similar to the original song. "So Help Me God" brings some more hard rock to the table. Ayiesha Woods, The Gotee Brothers, & John Reuben give us a soulful "Colored People". "What Have We Become" is an R&B song performed by Liquid. Family Force 5's version of "Mind's Eye" is Family Force 5-ized, yet having an early nineties feel. You can see all the diverse flavor on Freaked! Hard Rock, Hip-Hop, Soul, Punk, basically everything Gotee is goes into this project. It would have nice if they could bring back Out Of Eden for Freaked!, since they were the first artist of TobyMac's Gotee label. This CD is probably good publicity for Gotee's newer artists, such as Ayiesha Woods, Storyside:B, Liquid, & Family Force 5. Overall, this is a good compilation. 4th Avenue Jones & Relient K's songs make this album worth getting.

Movie Review: Pride & Prejudice

Movie Review:

Pride and Prejudice (Rated PG for Mild Thematic Content)
Based on Jane Austen's beautifully touching and historical masterpiece, Pride and Prejudice captures the touch of the ups and downs of relationships, then and now nearly to perfection. The Music: You'll catch yourself closing your eyes, imagining being Elizabeth, and dealing with her trials. The Acting: Keira Knightley captures every feeling of reality of the time period. Awards: Nominated Best Picture Academy Awards and Nominated Best Actress Keira Knightley.
