J.B.'s Commentary: Wow! I am surprised with these nominations. I mean, Stellar Kart? DecembeRadio? Kirk Franklin? Those nominations caught me totally by surprise. However, not all of nominations shocked me. "My Savior My God", "Made To Worship", "Cry Out To Jesus", and "Praise You In The Storm", were nominated. These are the real contenders for the prize. I personally think it will be a battle between Chris Tomlin's "Made To Worship" and Aaron Shust's breakout hit "My Savior My God", with Aaron Shust taking home the award. I'm rooting for Stellar Kart's "Me & Jesus", but it will be a long shot.

J.B.'s Commentary: The past few years have been disastrous for female singers. You are lucky to find one on 20 The Countdown Magazine. Because of this, the Female Vocalist category is pretty limited. Yes, the list has big names like Natalie Grant and Nichole Nordeman, but also has Christy Nockles, the lead singer of Watermark. I'm not saying she's not a fantastic vocalist, however, I am just surprised because Watermark is no more. I think Carrie Underwood should have been nominated because of her popularity in the Christian market. I would like to see Krystal Meyers win. I think of all the nominees, she has had the best year in the music scene. In 2006, Krystal has released her sophomore CD, Dying For A Heart, spun radio hits, and has appeared in NBC promotions. I think she deserves the Dove award.

If Third Day or Switchfoot were nominated, this catagory would be tougher to predict. However, since this is not the case, Casting Crowns is going to be a shoo-in. I was really hoping that the success that Sanctus Real and Hawk Nelson garnered throughout 2006 would give at least one of them a nod in the "Group of the Year" catagory.

I am surprised to see the omission of Brian Littrell and Family Force 5. These artists had a great year with great popularity. Pocket Full of Rocks shocked me with their nomination. They haven't been radio studs like Aaron Shust or Brian Littrell, so how was I to know they would be nominated.

I will now shock and astound you by my view of Cars. I liked it; the movie was good.Cars is a movie about caring about others. Yes, it does sound cutesy said that way, but take my word: it is ok.First of all for any movie is the trailer. It looked like it was dumb and full of stupid (perhaps off-color) jokes. (The anthromorphic faces on the cars do not help.) The clips I saw of it while babysitting, before I actually saw it, also looked dumb.The music was ok perhaps a little too busy; it should have been softer in a certain scene while people...-cars talked.The plot: a spoiled brat of a racing star gets dropped into a town in the middle of nowhere where he isn't made much of and is actually looked down upon because he messed up a street. (he cannot leave until he fixes it.) While there, he discovers a retired racer who choses not to be in the center of attention. When he finally gets back to civilization he runs in a big race, and shows by his actions that he has learned something about not being a spoiled brat. It was a good plot with a good ending.A sign of a good movie is whether they have something funny happen/written in/after the credits. This one did and it was a well done addition.

Go Newsboys

After performing praise and worship songs for the past few years, The Newsboys have returned to their rockin' roots with their CD, Go. Go brings back the traditional Newsboys pop/rock sound that Newsboys fans have been missing. The single, "Wherever We Go", kicks off the disc. "Go (I Wanna Send You)" follows. Both of these songs are upbeat declarations of the Newsboys' passion for mission work. Their newest radio single, "Something Beautiful", has a techno/pop flavor to it. This song sounds like it came from the late nineties, but still has likability. The disc continues with the Adult Contemporary songs "The Mission" and "Let It All Come Out". The Newsboys did not let the fans of their worship music down. With songs like "In Wonder" and "I Am Free", they create music that praises God for everything in life. "Your Love Is Better Than Life" has frontman Peter Furler rapping the verses to an upbeat pop song. "Secret Kingdom" is candy for classic Newsboys fans. It showcases the band's ability to keep the fan smiling. The closer, "Gonna Be Alright", seems to take us back to the 60s & 70s. That may be because of the clips of Evie Tournquist's song, "Oh How He Loves You And Me" floating around in the song. Overall, Go goes well. It is a solid effort from Furler and Co.

"The Employee"
It was a brisk, cold February afternoon. JB was hunting for a good job so she could earn some extra money. She had high hopes to buy a new stereo. However, the stereo of JB's choice would cost her 500 dollars. An amount that was about 490 dollars above her budget. JB searched and searched for a job, but an opening was not to be found.
She met up with Olivia at Roseville's finest ice cream parlor. JB was in despair. "Don't worry, you'll find something soon enough," said Olivia in her usual sweet tone. JB looked at Olivia straight in the face and exclaimed, "I have been searching for the past two weeks! No one wants to hire me!". As JB finished her ranting, Rachel came storming in the ice cream parlor. "JB! I was hoping you were here!" Rachel said with much excitement. "Roy's Music 'N More is hiring!" JB was ecstatic. Roy's Music 'N More was Roseville's primary music/movie/video game store, a popular place for teens. Also, this happened to be where Rachel worked, so JB would have someone she knew working with her. "What positions are available?" asked JB. Rachel replied, "The music department." JB was in luck. Music was her specialty. However, Roy's Music had every type of music invented, where JB knew only Christian music. But that wasn't going to stop JB. She needed this job. She really wanted to earn her stereo.
In the next week, JB applied for the position and was accepted. She was to work in the music department to sell CDs. Because of Roy's eclectic music selection, JB needed to research many styles of music and the performers. She wanted to make sure she did her job right. As JB learned more about the music she would be selling, she was disappointed in the quality of the message of the songs. By the time she started to work, however, JB knew enough about both secular and Christian music to find positive comparisons. She figured out how to help customers find music that was similar to what was popular, but had a uplifting impact.
Rachel was happy for her friend and was there to help whenever needed. While JB worked in the music section, Rachel was employed in the movie department. She had worked at Roy's for nearly a year and knew the ropes. During JB's first few weeks, Rachel was there mentoring her. With every day that passed, JB got better and better at her job. She enjoyed her work.
JB was doing so well that she was offered a higher position among the department. JB was thrilled. However, Rachel did not get a promotion. When she learned JB's news, she was upset. "I have been working there longer than a year. I have paid my dues," said a frusterated Rachel. "I am the one that deserves the position." Olivia, who was comforting Rachel, replied, "It's ok". Rachel was slightly annoyed with Olivia's response. "What do you mean, 'It's ok'? It isn't fair!" exclaimed Rachel. Olivia calmly answered, "God has a plan for JB, and maybe her job is for the better. Maybe with JB being a higher authority, she will influence those she serves".
The following day, Rachel contemplated Olivia's words as she left for Roy's. She still felt envy as she walked into the store. Rachel was getting ready to start her shift, but noticed JB helping a teenage girl on the search for good music. Rachel was close enough to hear JB's sales pitch. "What do you know of the band, Loud Slumber?" asked the teen. JB replied, "I've heard the band and all I can say is that they are a violent band full of negativity. They have a good sound, but I don't think it is worth listening the hopeless stories the band sings about." The girl looked perplexed. "But this is what's popular. All of my friends listen to this band!". JB could see where she was coming from. "I understand you, however, I know some bands who have a hopeful meaning to their songs," said JB. The girl appeared intrigued. "Could you show me some CDs of these bands?" asked the young customer. JB was happy to ablige. JB handed the teenager some the latest albums that had a similar sound to Loud Slumber, but had positive lyrics. The girl listened to a demo, then bought the CDs. "Wow!" she said. "I've never heard anything like this. The stuff I listened to before was violent, but this is hopeful and inspiring!".
JB was smiling as the girl left the store. Rachel, who had been watching the entire scene, was touched. This is why JB deserved the job. JB not only has a knack for selling music, but has the ability to lead kids to healthy music. After realizing her error, Rachel prayed a prayer of repentance. She had truly learned about how God places everyone in the right place at the right time according to his will. Rachel was also sorry for being jealous of her best friend. After she finished praying, Rachel realized that she was supposed to be working, so she set off to do so. But she will always remember this story.

"Must Have Done Something Right" Relient K
The video starts out with the lead singer (Matt) standing with his girlfriend singing the song. The girlfriend is kicking a soccer ball, and then she punts it far away and wants Matt to go get it. But then a food-stand guy catches it and keeps it away from him. He then kicks it to another guy in a coffee shop and then this guy also tries to keep it a way from Matt. Then he kicks it to another guy...ect. Most of the music video goes on like this but it gets a little more interesting and funny as the soccer ball gets kicked to a library, bowling alley, hotel, and the last place is around some dumpsters and where Matt finally gets the ball back and kicks it past a constuction worker and between the dumpsters as if he were really playing soccer. This video is fun and entertaining so i give it...
