CD Review: Stellar Kart's "We Can't Stand Sitting Down"

CD Review:
We Can't Stand Sitting Down Stellar Kart
By Blair S.

Dove Award New Artist nominee, Stellar Kart, is back with a bang. Continuing in the vein of their previous offering, All Gas, No Brake, Stellar Kart gives us We Can't Stand Sitting Down. An album that bridges punk rock guitars with upbeat, hyper pop melodies. "Procrastinating" is a caffenated rock song. "Activate" is catchy and doing fairly well on the Christian rock charts. The album gives us a breather with the hit single, "Me And Jesus". The power ballad, "Me And Jesus", proves to us that Jesus is with us through every troubling circumstance and provides us with relationships to help as well. "Hold On" follows the strong rock ballad trend that "Me And Jesus" started. The fun, energetic tunes return with songs like "Finding Out", "Lose Control", and "Always Waiting". "Always Waiting" sounds very similar to "Spending Time" from Stellar Kart's debut. "Only Wanted" shows a slightly harder side to this band. We Can't Stand Sitting Down closes with worshipful ballad, "Angels In Chorus". Overall, this is a big plus for Stellar Kart. They have improved enough to have a number one CHR single (Me And Jesus). If you like peppy rock, you'll love this CD.

Movie Review:

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Review by Courtney T.

I think we have all had our moments of, well, pure imagination, right? Oh come on, don't tell me you've never EVER fantasized of entering a world completely opposite from this one we live in. Or maybe when you're having a bad day, just think you could be swirling with reindeers in the sky, or maybe perfecting jack-o-lanterns under the moon. Well if you have you have only entered the mere tip of the iceberg of the infamous Mr. Jack Skellington's newfound world.....
Acting: The acting of course is what we call voice acting. Now I know that when most people think of voice acting we think of mere cartoons, or a lack of common body language. This is not true. The acting, or more approprately said, ~voice~ acting is nearly perfect for ~all~ of the characters. They are haunting, chilling and somehow very sorrowful. Yes, they do possess a certain sadness that I believe is needed for the movie. I have not an idea how to put it any better. 9 1/2 out of 10
Musical Score: Once again we get to another nearly perfect part of this movie. They just keep rolling in! The music is not just ~near~ perfect, I believe it really ~is~ perfect! 10 out of 10Plot: A beautiful love story between Jack and Sally... (and etc. of course) The story is simple yet sweet. Yet the plot/story of the film is not the ~main~ part as you should say of this movie. It still holds up though, it's just hard to keep up with all of the tricks and treats that this movie has to offer!! 8 out of 10
Overall Score: 10 out of 10 ~Tim Burton really knows how to do it!~

Jezy's Music Video Review

Jezy's Music Video Review:

Family Force 5's "Love Addict"

For all you love addicts out there...
The video starts out with a close up of glittery lips singing, "Hold up, wait a minute, put a little love in it!" (This is one of those songs that if you've heard it, you instantly know what song it is.) It also starts out with a lot of pink. Too much pink. So much pink it hurts. (Yes, that much pink). This is also one of those videos that the song is better than the video, but then it starts catching on. As the song goes on they bring out the dancers, the doctors, and the heart-shaped mascot. You may not know it, but this song has so much more meaning than anticipated. The love that Family Force 5 is talking about is God's love. "Can't kick the habit. I've got to have it. I'm what they call a LOVE ADDICT, LOVE ADDICT!" If you listen to the lyrics and think about it, you can see what they mean.
I give Family Force 5's "Love Addict"...

4 out of 5 stars * * * *

Really Reality TV

Really Reality TV

The Amazing Race: "Finally, the blondes are eliminated. "Bama" is officialy the first all-female team to make it to the final three. I think it would be hilarious if Lyn & Karlyn won. On the first episode they looked like they would be gone any minute, but now they're in the final three. I think James & Tyler will win. Rob & Kimberly are too unstable, and Lyn & Karlyn are moms."-Blair S.

Survivor: "Candace no longer has to worry about Exile Island. She's gone. I am amazed that Jonathan has made it this far. He won't have any friends on the jury, he has voted against everyone on the panel. If he wasn't so likeable, I wouldn't be rooting for him. I thought the reward challenge entertaining. Especially when Ozzy's ice cream machine went crazy. I hope the Aitu five continues to dominate. Adam's cockiness gets on my nerves. Parvati is a force to be reckoned with. She is showing herself as a physical and mental threat...now, why can't anyone see it?"-Blair S.

J.B.'s Dove Award Nomination Guesses
This is about the time of year I put out my so-called "predictions" in GMA Award (Dove) nominations. Remember, these are the opinions of a Christian Music fanatic, not someone involved in GMA affairs.

Song Of The Year:
"Mountain Of God" Third Day
"Cry Out To Jesus" Third Day
"Made To Worship" Chris Tomlin
"This Man" Jeremy Camp
"So Long Self" MercyMe
"Praise You In This Storm" Casting Crowns
"My Savior My God" Aaron Shust
"Wholly Yours" David Crowder Band
"I Am" Mark Schultz
"I Need You To Love Me" BarlowGirl
Other Possibilities: "Everything You Ever Wanted" Hawk Nelson, "Me And Jesus" Stellar Kart, "I'm Not Alright" Sanctus Real, "Welcome Home" Brian Littrell, "Only Grace" Matthew West, "Bless The Broken Road" Selah.
J.B.'s Picks: "My Savior My God", "Everything You Ever Wanted", "Me And Jesus", & "I'm Not Alright".
Probable Winner (If nominated): "Cry Out To Jesus", or "My Savior My God".
J.B. Says: The first seven songs are pretty much locks. I would like to see the Hawk Nelson, Sanctus Real, & Stellar Kart hits nominated. However, these songs were big on the CHR charts, but that may not be enough. I think "Cry Out To Jesus" will be the overall pick because of the heartfelt message. However, Aaron Shust could pull an upset. His song is the best playing single of this year's crop of new artists. I would have Chris Tomiln's "How Great Is Our God", but that song won last year. Surely they wouldn't nominate a song that already won...or would they?

Female Vocalist Of The Year:
Natalie Grant
Nichole Nordeman
Carrie Underwood
Krystal Meyers
Ayeisha Woods
Other Possibilities: Jessie Daniels, Rebecca St. James, Joy Williams
J.B.'s Picks: Krystal Meyers, Jessie Daniels
Probable Winner (If nominated): Natalie Grant
J.B. Says: 2006, as well as 2005 and 2004, suffered from a lack of towering female soloists. At least last year we had a couple of girls to stand up against the guys. This year we had only a few songs scratch the top 20 AC charts. In CHR circles, female artists are more common. You have Ayeisha Woods, Jessie Daniels, and Krystal Meyers with songs past the number 10 mark. So they may turn up in the nominations.

Male Vocalist Of The Year:
Chris Tomlin
Jeremy Camp
Aaron Shust
Mark Hall (of Casting Crowns)
David Crowder
Other possibilities: Matthew West, Mark Harris, Brian Littrell, Mac Powell (of Third Day),
J.B.'s Picks:Aaron Shust, Jeremy Camp
Probable Winner (If Nominated):Chris Tomlin
J.B. Says: Tomlin, Camp, and Shust had some of the biggest songs of the year, especially Chris Tomlin. Mr. Tomlin should start getting his acceptance speech prepared. He had two HUGE hits this year, new CD, and the fact he won last year. I could visualize David Crowder being nominated for the same reason as Mark Hall, they are both vocalists for successful bands.

Group Of The Year:
MercyMe
Third Day
Casting Crowns
David Crowder Band
Switchfoot
Other Possibilities: BarlowGirl, Hawk Nelson, Sanctus Real, Superchick, Newsboys, Kutless, Selah, The Afters, Stellar Kart, Big Daddy Weave, Relient K, Aly & AJ
J.B.'s Picks:Hawk Nelson, Sanctus Real, Aly & AJ
Probable Winner (If nominated):Third Day
J.B. Says: This is an easy category. Groups tend to dominate the charts. Third Day should come up as the winner. With two HUGE hits this year, they are a logical choice. I'm hoping Sanctus Real or Hawk Nelson can squeeze into the nomination slot, but the competition could drive them out.

New Artist Of The Year:
Ayiesha Woods
Aaron Shust
Jessie Daniels
Brian Littrell
Leeland
Other Possibilities: Aly & AJ, Family Force 5, Eleventyseven, Red, Fireflight, Decemberadio, StorySide B
J.B.'s Picks: Jessie Daniels, Aly & AJ (If eligible)
Probable Winner (If nominated): Aaron Shust
J.B. Says: This category should be interesting. Aaron Shust will probably be nominated and win for his song, "My Savior My God". Brian Littrell will very likely get nominated because he was a new artist that came with some buzz, being a Backstreet Boy. I would like to see Aly & AJ in this category. However, their debut CD came out October, 2005 in Christian retailers and released a Christmas album this year. They are very iffy.

The OFFICIAL Dove award nominations will probably be released in February.

Question Of The Month

Last month's question: What is your stand on Halloween?
"When Halloween is near, I feel Fall is officially here. I enjoy dressing up because I have an excuse to. I don't condone the tales of witches, vampires, and ghosts, however, it is fun having a 'spooky' feel around."-Blair S.

Our poll results:
100 % said they celebrated Halloween for tradition, but didn't take it seriously.
